Never one to shy away from hard work, Ben was drawn to work oil and gas rigs as a teenager, where he saw first hand how the energy we consume often comes at too great a cost. Compelled to make a difference, he studied Engineering by night, later going full-time at QUT, where he grew enchanted by the emerging concept of renewables and their potential to aid Australia’s transition to a clean energy economy.

This new born passion for clean energy inevitably spilled into his professional career, spending the next 10 years immersed in a multitude of energy projects as diverse as geothermal, solar, biogas and unconventional gas. This included world leading projects in engineered geothermal systems (EGS), giving Ben the platform and experience necessary to have a crack at making a difference for communities closer to home.

Having established Hum Energy in 2014, Ben earned his keep with solutions that empowered small to medium businesses to stay competitive amidst rising energy prices and growing concern over global warming. Having formed strong relationships through the course of many projects, Hum set about acquiring energy management business RMS in 2016 with the goal of establishing a long-term optimisation model, driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness for Hum’s clients well into the future.

In 2021, Ben and his team continue to defy outdated beliefs that renewables are expensive, and continue to innovate as the world increasingly demands solutions that won’t cost the earth (in more ways than one).
